BOCA Juniors will be boosted by the return of Juan Roman Riquelme on Sunday night in their bid to climb to the top of the Apertura standings, in the sixth round of the opening stage of the Argentine championship.
Injury ruled Riquelme out of last weekend’s win against Independiente but returns to action for the visit of San Martín SJ, with opposition coach Daniel Garnero weary of the Boca captain.
“We have to make him uncomfortable and play with his back to goal,” said the San Martín coach. “If we go to sleep, allow him to lift his head and play a pass from 40 metre’s, it’s possible we’ll concede two goals as we did against Estudiantes.”
A win would temporarily put Boca above current leaders Rafaela at the top of Apertura table, with fifth placed Lanus, who can also overtake the early pacesetters, not playing until Monday night.
Boca are also welcome back Juan Insaurralde from injury, following a two-game absence and the 26-year-old is expected to partner Rolando Schiavi in the centre of a Boca defence which has shipped just one goal in their opening five games.
