Welsh results wrap: Williams double gets Haverfordwest off to flyer in Welsh League

A superb solo effort saw Steffan Williams claim a brace as promotion hopefuls Haverfordwest County thumped Goytre United 4-0 on the opening weekend of the Welsh League season, in a surprisingly one-sided encounter at Glenhafod stadium. Williams’ close control and neat finish saw him single-handedly carve out County’s second of the afternoon to double his tally, before strikes from Nicky Woodrow and Robert Morgans added to Goytre’s woes.

Last year’s champions hosted last year’s runners-up on Friday night as Cambrian & Clydach entertained Taff’s Well. The Wellmen raced into a 3-0 lead, with new boy Simon Prangley amongst the goals, before edging to a 4-2 victory to take an early season advantage over their championship rivals. Two late penalties from Jamal Easter spared Bridgend Town of an early upset against Caerleon, after Chris Bickerton had put the newly-promoted ahead.
