ABERTILLERY BLUEBIRDS were able to build on their victory over Llanwern midweek by holding promotion hopefuls Pontypridd Town to a point at Ynysangharad Park.

A lively start by both sides sees the game going from box to box with some good passages of play. The first chance of the game comes to the Bluebirds after some intelligent play by Adam Poole in the centre of midfield. Brett Morgan finds Michael Pritchard out on the wing & his pass in turn finds Poole after he continues his run, but the midfielder’s shot fizzes just over the bar. As the half hour mark approaches it looks as if the away side are more likely to break the deadlock. Ponty still press forward however, and it was Richard Clark who has to spring into action as he clears off the line as a certain goal was on the cards.

Tom Calver comes on for the injured Michael Vagg for the start of the second half. Ponty started the half brightly and Tom Indge is called upon early on, to make a super save. A free-kick awarded in a great position nearly pays dividends as Pritchard comes close, his effort goes inches over the crossbar. Midfielder Poole makes way for Lewis Clark, he leaves the field to an applause for an outstanding performance. Lee Bancroft saves of the line again as Ponty look for a goal. Heard is replaced by Ioan Protheroe. As the game comes to an end, Ponty look the stronger side, but the Bluebirds work hard to deny every opportunity they make. But it may be the away side who nick something from this game as Protheroe breaks down the middle, he out paces the centre half & strikes toward goal but the keeper matches his effort with a super stop. Next, it’s Ross Hancocks to charge at the Ponty defence but it’s the same outcome as his shot goes agonisingly wide.
