It’s not been such a bad week for Newtown after all it seems.
You could’ve forgiven the Robins for being stunned ahead of their visit to Airbus on Tuesday night, after the weekend saw them lose to Bala Town 3-2 at Latham Park with the visitors scoring in both the 96th and 97th minutes to snatch a win. Worse still was the fact that Newtown had comfortably led 2-0 at half-time and that influential defender Shane Sutton was stretchered off with a supected broken leg effectively ruling him out for much of the season.
Roll forward a few days and things suddenly don’t seem so bad after all. Prior to the Airbus game, the club announced via Twitter that Sutton’s injury wasn’t as bad as first feared after consultation with a specialist confirmed that he would not require surgery will undergo further rehabilitation after being in a cast for the next 12 weeks.
Shane Sutton would not be the only one smiling however as a few hours later, the footballing gods were indeed smiling down at Chris Hughes’ team after Jason Oswell, Matty Owen, Jamie Price and Luke Boundford secured Newtown an impressive 4-1 win over the Wingmakers which lifts them into second place in the Welsh Premier League table.
Four days is a long time in football.
